Fluttering in the wind

I’m a piece of paper

fluttering in the warm wind

among yellow leaves

and old plastic

and shreds of shattered dreams

but any second now

I might fly aw-

Discussion Question: Consider the first line: “I’m a piece of paper”. What does it symbolise? In your opinion, is the author actually a piece of paper? Justify.

  1. The speaker isn’t a literal piece of paper. The author uses the metaphor to show that the speaker is tired of all the pollution on the ground, so s/he must take flight, and go where the warm wind takes him/her.
Excellent piece of writing. Also, I love the discussion question.
